One Night with a Hero

One Night with a Hero - Laura Kaye 4.5 Stars

Laura Kaye does it again, bringing to life a story full of heart and soul, with her latest release of, One Night With a Hero!

We first met Army Special Forces Sgt., Brady Scott in Her Forbidden Hero as Alyssa's big brother and Marco's best friend. Brady has an anger management problem resulting from an abusive childhood where he had to dodge his alcoholic father's fists and protect his younger sister, Alyssa. Because of this, his view on marriage, children, and relationships period are pretty black. He doesn't want anything to do with them and is always honest in this with the women he hooks up with. Brady is a damaged hero and as the story progresses you can understand why Brady feels this way despite him sometimes coming off as a jerk towards Joss.

When Brady first spots Joss Daniels in the park his attraction is instant and feeling lonely herself, Joss takes Brady up on his offer of one wild night. The chemistry between these two is burning and all-consuming right from the start. However, their one night turns into more when they find out soon after that they're neighbors. Joss expects some kind of attention from Brady after their encounter but he pretty much gives her the cold shoulder even though he can't stop thinking about her himself. This doesn't last long however and Brady soon breaks down, succumbing to the undeniable passion that flares between them. They go pretty hot and heavy for a while but Brady still has his walls up while Joss is falling quickly. Their sexcapades come to a screeching halt though when Joss realizes she's pregnant. Nervous about sharing the news to begin with, Joss is devastated by Brady's icy reaction. This is where my heart broke to pieces. Joss is so full of love despite her solitary upbringing, she is destroyed by Brady's attitude but determined to stay strong for her unborn child, and this is where I root for her! Her character is incredibly strong, you can't help but get in her corner. But don't start bashing Brady yet because the main motivating factor behind his actions is fear, fear for turning into his father. Brady's character is a multitude of layers and by the time you peel off the last one you'll be smitten. Brady has to confront his past before he can find a future with Joss...

A roller-coaster ride of hurt, heart break, fear, passion and love; Laura Kaye finds the perfect balance of sweet and sexy in One Night with a Hero. Despite its short length, Joss and Brady's story is replete. The characters are multi-dimensional, the plot moves at a well developed and steady pace, the story is believable and Laura Kaye's voice adds magic to the pages. Readers, be prepared to be swept away! There is a reason why Laura Kaye is on my auto-buy list and this is on prime example as to why!
