Biting the Bullet
This third installment in the series is a short, sweet and to the point read with an action packed adventure that you jump into right away.Jaz’s team joins her twin’s special ops team in Iran to take down the Wizard, a terrorist and necromancer in control of an army of zombies. On her way to Iraq Raoul, an ex-military Angel/guide with a Vegas penthouse, take’s Jaz on a trip to hell that she had to make a sacrifice for but can’t remember what it was. Hopefully it’s nothing too important. *crosses fingers* There she learns that Uldin Beit, mate to Reaver Desmond Yale, wants revenge on her for his death and makes a bargain with the Magistrate to get it and is sponsored by none other then Edward Samos, the Raptor. But there is something she is missing here…
As soon as Jaz returns from Hell the Reavers attack. How is she suppose to ferret out the mole in Dave’s team, find out the truth about the Wizard, perform the rituals every morning on her demon mark, defend herself against emotion stealing creatures, keep her family from falling apart and stop Vayl from making such a huge mistake that it could destroy their relationship forever, all at the same time? Just another day in the life of Jaz Parks it seems…
With this third book IMO you can read it as a stand-alone but I recommend reading the whole series so you can see the character development.
All the secondary characters that I have come to love you will find in Biting the Bullet, and one or two have some very sweet and heartfelt moments.
There is major tension between Jaz and Vayl, and more then just the normal romantic tension we have seen the previous two books, which puts Vayl in more of a secondary character role and leaves Jaz fighting her battles alone a lot. Makes you want to smack Vayl upside the head a few times.
Jaz, being her quirky self, has an ‘inner bitch’ dialogue that is hilarious. And Jaz and Cole have a “Camel Tipping” scene that will make you laugh out loud.
Rardin did another excellent job with this fast-paced story line filled with mystery and suspense; you think you finally have it figured out and then Rardin throws you a curve ball. And you’ll find a boatload of imaginative supernatural characters, some I’ve never heard of before. There are a lot of things going on at once but all the sub-plots flow with the main plot well. My favorite of the series so far, read in a day.
I know I out this as my TT but it’s my favorite quote of the book;
Pg.8 "So...you're an assassin?" Dave asked incredulously.
"Why do I feel like you'd have used the same tone if I'd just confessed to being a stripper?" I demanded.
"Sorry," he said quickly. "I'm just surprised, is all."
