Book of Shadows

Like it says in the summary above it is about an Irish dark & sexy detective, Adam Garrett, who is called to a murder scene with his partner, Carl Landaver, who personifies your typical police officers. Or what you imagine one would be like.
The decapitated body that is found in a landfill, sans one hand and sporting ritualistic carvings, is that of Erin Carmody, daughter of a Boston bigwig.
It seems like an easy open and shut case when they go to question & arrest boyfriend Jason Moncrief who is thought to be a satanic follower and practicing the black arts. With girlfriend, Assistant D.A. Carolyn Davenport, and L.T. Malloy pushing for it, why shouldn’t it be? This can be an easy ride to the top for Detective Garrett.
But something just doesn’t feel right...
Then enters darkly attractive Tanith Cabarrus, a witch who claims to have dreams of the murders and states that Jason is innocent. Tanith believes that a demon is responsible and that they must stop him before Halloween. Or Samhain, when the veil between the living and the dead is at it’s thinnest.
So what is Garrett to believe? Is something supernatural going on or is it just some human psychotic killer? Is he “Willing to take a leap of faith. Willing to do things by a different book.” ?
This is a suspense thriller with lots of mystery and horror with a small dash of romance that is easily understandable and believable, even with all the police jargon. Even though I will admit to skimming over those parts. Detective kinds of things just aren’t my preference. As I stated before, I’m not a C.S.I., Law and Order or any of those type of shows, girl. But this book did keep my interest with the supernatural stuff and it was pretty creepy because you think; there are people out there like this and maybe this could happen. AG! *As you run to hide under your bed!* Brandi even had a nightmare about this book one night after staying up too late reading it!
Good world building but I was kind of up and down on the characters, relating wise. I did enjoy the book though and I did finish it. And it has fantastic reviews by others. If you are into the murder mystery thing I would def. recommend it. For me, I would give it three stars. It was a nice read but I wouldn’t re-read it and I probably won’t pick up any more of her books. But that’s just my opinion. Did you read it? What did you think? Let us know!
Brandi: I am not very good at giving book reviews. But I will tell you that once I got to the middle of this book it was hard for me to put down. I have only read one other book by Alexandra Solokoff and that was The Price. The Price was equally as intriguing as this book. I am a big fan of murder suspense and mystery and this book has all of that and more.
